Windows 8 Unleashed Boise Follow-up

Brent Schooley / Monday, October 1, 2012

This past Friday, I had the opportunity to present in the third and final session slot at Windows 8 Unleashed Boise. I would like to thank my colleague Brian Lagunas for asking me to come out for this. It was a great event and there were a lot of fantastic attendees. You can always tell people are interested when they ask a lot of questions and there was no shortage of great questions asked at this event.

Follow-up material

I had a lot of requests for follow-up material. These were mostly directed at my first set of material which was my “Designing for Windows 8” presentation. The best place to go for follow-up material for this presentation is the webinar follow-up I did this past Wednesday. I posted my slides in both the original Keynote file and the PowerPoint I derived from it. If you have access to a Mac, I highly recommend the Keynote version. The PowerPoint version was trimmed and heavily simplified for use on LiveMeeting. I will also be producing a recording of the Keynote presentation at some time within the next few months which will be posted both here on this blog and on my personal developer blog, CodeSnack. Feel free to share this material with your colleagues.

I also mentioned that I would provide the code that was used for the demos in the second session on search, live tiles, and secondary tiles. I actually will not be able to provide the exact code used during the session since it is part of my app being used for my book and my development series here. Since I’m not able to do that, I’m going to provide a different sample that walks through the same steps. I will post that later this week. If you’re interested in seeing how Running Total was built (including the code I added to it for W8U), stay tuned for the Get up to speed with Windows 8 series that is coming soon.
