More Expressive Charts, More Design Control 

Great data visualization isn’t just about accuracy — it’s about clarity and consistency. Two enhancements in this release make it significantly easier to build charts that look exactly the way you need them to. 

DataPieChart: OthersCategory Styling 

When a pie chart aggregates smaller slices into an “Others” category, that slice has historically been difficult to style independently. Two new properties — OthersCategoryBrush and OthersCategoryOutline — change that, giving you explicit control over the fill color and stroke of the aggregated slice. 

This matters more than it might seem. In branded applications, an unstyled “Others” slice can break visual consistency across a dashboard. In data-dense views, being able to visually distinguish the catch-all category helps users immediately understand what they’re looking at. With these properties, you no longer need workarounds — you set it directly, like any other slice. 

New Checkmark Marker and Configurable Marker Size 

Markers are one of the most visible elements in line and scatter charts, and until now the options for customizing them have been limited. This release adds a new Checkmark marker shape to the existing marker library, giving you an additional option for differentiating series in multi-series charts or drawing attention to specific data points. 

Alongside the new shape, the new MarkerSize property lets you scale marker visuals in device-independent pixels — meaning your markers render consistently across screen resolutions and display densities. Whether you’re designing for a high-DPI monitor or a standard display, your markers will look exactly as intended. Together, these two additions give you finer-grained control over one of the most impactful visual elements in your charts. 

New Ways to Visualize and Label Your Data 

Building charts that communicate clearly means having the right series types and the right control over how axes present information. This release adds both. 

DataChart: Range Bar Series 

A new Range Bar Series is now available in DataChart, enabling you to plot value ranges as horizontal bars between a high bound and a low bound. It uses a NumericXAxis paired with a CategoryYAxis, making it the bar-oriented counterpart to the existing RangeColumnSeries. 

This is a particularly useful series type for scenarios where direction matters as much as magnitude — think task duration across a timeline, temperature ranges by day, or performance variance across categories. The horizontal orientation makes it immediately readable when you have many categories to compare, and the high/low binding means the data relationship is self-evident at a glance without requiring additional annotation or explanation. 

TimeXAxis: Label Formatting Event 

The TimeXAxis is one of the most commonly used axes in financial, operational, and analytics applications — and formatting its labels correctly for different time scales has always required careful configuration. A new LabelFormatOverride event on TimeXAxisLabelFormat gives you event-based control to override the default label formatting logic at every supported time-formatting level, from years down to milliseconds. 

In practice, this means you’re no longer locked into the default formatting pipeline when your application has custom date display requirements. Whether you need to localize date formats, abbreviate labels differently at different zoom levels, or apply business-specific formatting rules, LabelFormatOverride gives you a clean interception point to handle it without rebuilding your axis configuration from scratch. 

Annotate Charts Your Way — Now in Preview 

Data tells a story, but context completes it. User Annotation Layers are now available as a Community Technology Preview (CTP), introducing the ability for users to place their own annotations directly onto chart visualizations at runtime. 

This is an early look at a capability that has significant implications for collaborative and analytical applications. Think of a financial dashboard where an analyst can mark a key event on a timeline, or an operations tool where a team member can flag an anomaly directly on the chart for others to see. Instead of exporting a chart and annotating it in a separate tool, the context lives where the data lives. 

Because this is a CTP, the feature is available for you to explore and test today — and your feedback will directly influence how it develops before full release.
