SharePlus: Harness the Power of SharePoint Search on the Go!

 

As SharePoint continues to be one of Microsoft’s fastest growing platforms, it’s quickly becoming the de facto choice for document management across the enterprise. The ability to efficiently search for information has become essential as site and folder structures continually grow.  Microsoft has responded to this need by providing a powerful SharePoint desktop search mechanism.  Mobile usage of SharePoint is growing and the need for search is key in this context.

Enterprise Search is a robust feature that was introduced in Share Plus Enterprise 3.0.  This addition puts the power of SharePoint’s desktop search in your mobile device.  SharePoint users may now use SharePlus on their iPads (and other devices) to quickly search for information across all SharePoint content.

 

The following is an example of how to use the Enterprise Search feature of SharePlus to search for a SharePoint document on an iPad.  To use the full text search capability to search for a Word document containing the word “earthquake,” we’ll follow these steps:

 

1.  Tap the “Search” box on the home page of your site:

 

2.  Type the word “earthquake” into the search box.

 

3.  Tap the “Search” button.

 

 

The full text search will be performed on the SharePoint server.  The results will be displayed in the right pane.

 

We can also search using other criteria such as:

1. Document type
2. Modified Date
3. Author
4. Meta Data

 

The following is an example of locating all documents written by a specific person:

 

 

The resulting document(s) may now be accessed from the device.  As with other SharePoint documents accessed via SharePlus, you may perform the following actions with respect to the document(s):

1. Open
2. Edit
3. Add to Favorites
4. Copy URL
5. Email document
6. Copy it to your device
7. Check Out / In
