Just received your Ultimate upgrade offer and it mentions Report Writer. I have been unable to find any information about this. Is this a Silverlight Data Visualization only product? Any usage capability with winforms?

Ah, thanks very much Jeremy. Yes that clears it up. It would be nice to see some promotional material about the product though... just as a teaser for what the Report Writer will be able to do.

I certainly understand your concern. If you have not yet seen our roadmap page, the available details around what will be included within the Report Writer and the other new suites Infragistics will be launching in 2011 can be found at https://ko.infragistics.com/products/all. As these products are still in the development/testing stage details are limited. If you have specific questions as to what will be included within the suite or suggestions, please reach out to our team directly at Sales@infragistics.com and your territory manager will work with you around your questions/feedback.

In regard to the current upgrade offer that Infragistics is promoting (which you reference), it is focused around upgrading to our NetAdvantage Ultimate suite from our NetAdvantage for .Net suite. The additional products within Ultimate are our Data Visualization suites for Silverlight and WPF. These suites include extremely performant and scalable controls such as our Pivot Grid, high speed Data Chart and mapping controls that will greatly enhance the development of a dashboard and/or any application focused on visualizing business data. At the current point, our Data Visualization controls are the key drivers in upgrading to the Ultimate suite from the .Net suite.

With that said, we are also extremely excited about the new products we will be releasing in 2011 and are confident that they will provide our customers with a competitive advantage as well as an excellent ROI (especially considering an upgrade cost of $200 that also covers the DV suites). We plan to have more information about our Report Writer and our other new suites available soon as well as CTP’s for you to try.

I also would like to know the answer to this.

We are doing heavy report generation where I am, and I would be interested in learning more.

Why would I upgrade to a product that has no information? I will not ask for $200 more for vaporware with no details. Even if it is Infragistics.

Yes I think with all the report writers out there a little more information isn't going to tip off anyone to a competitive advantage. Since it seems to be considered a new product then perhaps it will be usable by winforms, web, wpf and silverlight is some manner. Would be nice to know things like can the designer be supplied to the users so they can create or modify their own reports? How about pivot type reports?

Nick- I too found the same information as you and am in the same situation to upgrade or not. The only 'hint' I found was this sentence in the more information page:

In 2011, we're planning to release a fast reporting engine with a rich API for .NET developers.

That tells me that this is probably for winApps and not the web (.NET developers vs ASP.NET developers). I hope someone from Infragisitcs will reply for an official clarification.
