HI
I upgraded to 7.3 clr 3 from 6.2. All of a sudden I am getting all of thses errors that used to work. The WegGrid properties used to wortk now they are read only???? DisplayLayout.RowSelectorStyleDefault etc. First of all why?????? Second what am I supposed to do. Now I have to waste a LOT OF TIME DOING RESEARCH INTO CHANGING MY APP. I am livid. Absollutley livid. It seems to happen ALL OF THE TIME. I am wondering if it is worth the aggravation to continue using these products. You obvioulsy do not care about the programmer.

Hello Gary,
I understand your frustration, because I had the same problems with infragistics products (ASP.NET). Hopefully, I found a solution to all my problems (buggy controls, lack of support, ....). I flush all my infragistics controls and now I use Telerik controls wich are bug free, you have a great support, controls respects standards (asp.net ajax, XHTML) and are easy to use....
For sure it has a cost for you to change, but I'm sure that this cost is less expensive than continue to work with buggy controls.

Are you kidding me lol... Telerik has nothing BUT problems, and what really makes me LMFAO is when you post something on Telerik forums you get the "FAMOUS" old Microsoft answer "We were unable to reproduce the problem must be on your end..." lol Telerik what a Joke...
Ah challenges :) I love when people try and dare me to do stuff with IG controls hahahah I will take that challenge :) I tell you what how about I change the current challenge on visualstudiotutorials.com to be web based Outlook 2007 Using ONLY Infragistics +SQL controls?
But WHEN I win the challenge you must both bow your heads to the power that is Infragistics... DEAL?
As far as the 500,000+ records ummmmm I have done this on more than one occasion (ICD9,CPT) codes so not sure where the problem is there except to say maybe your database is not indexed etc, but regardless will show you that as well..
NICE, Really looking forward to this so your challange is to replicate the outlook 2007 interface using ONLY infragistics controls. This as I mentioned before should include
The app obviously does not have to be a full blown application but it should demonstrate all the typical outlook features mentioned above as closley as possible and with ONLY IG CONTROLS. If you succeed then not only will I bow to your greatness in achieving what I considered not to be achievable but ill swallow my pride and admit that I may have been wrong with my assesment of IG.
In case your up for another challenge, try to populate the grid with lets say 1 million records (up the anty eh). Enable all the grids features (grouping, paging and filtering) and get it all to work. If you can do this with the current grid (not aikido) then ill keep my big gob shut and hail the power that is Infragistics :)
Very interesting
Very well :)But before I get started I have a few questions:A: Slidding Panes? Not sure what you mean on this one as I have O2007 open right now and the panes in the left navigation "dont" slide butrather show/hide panels.B: New Message Alert? You mean a pop up window (dialog)? as the Pop up Message that appears in the bottom right "new message notification" on a web page (like in weboutlook) is a security hack not a dhtml/javascript feature.
C: I have to do it with the current version of IG as I am not going to place old controls and ajax on my servers and/or laptop so that means 2008.1 of the infragistics controls... You ok with that?
D: You have to allow me asp.net controls as well (not 3rd party) but built in controls such as asp:label etc.
No problem on the rest, (and on your second challenge (not really a challenge) but will go ahead and add that as a tutorial to my website :)
btw you forgot preview pane, calendars, tasks and personal notes :) as I don't want to take advantage
LOL LOL Love the reference to the Telerik outlook demo lol
A) The slidding panes im talking about is the TO-DO bar. You can access it by going to View -> TO-DO Bar
B) No the effect can be achieved without hacking the browser. Have a look at http://intersoftpt.com/WebNotification/ to see a great implementation of it. Telerik also has a similar implementation but intersofts is better
C)Totally fine with this
D) Thats fine too. No third party controls or clever dhtml re-incarnations of the controls. Must be native asp.net controls and IG.
You can add the others if you wish, but I really doubt you will be able to acheive this. If you fail then you have to admit to both myself and Cedric that IG is not as great as you think it is. HUMBLE PIE ANYONE
Yeah I thought the reference was classic to...
A) Fine,
B) I thought you were talking about something completly different like the one you get on the actual bottom right taskbar lol
D) But I can use javascript (with their contorls yes) so long as I dont remake their control :)
If I lose and/or have to use a 3rd party control to finish the challenge i will eat my PIE in front of everyone but I am thinking you mightwant to go shopping for some knee pads so you don't hurt your knees...I am going to start RIGHT NOW (Start the clock)
@remissssThe thing I have learned over the years is everyone has their own preference when it comes to programming from controls to languages for me the Infragistics controls are extremly easy to use even the styling and layout etc. where telerik and other controls I find them to be pretty much the way you feel about IG in the end it really doesn't matter what controls you use but rather what controls are best for you...
I agree john I think it is going to be a very healthy back and forth challenge...You can follow along with the application building here: http://outlook.visualstudiotutorials.com and it has only been 5 hours since the start of the challenge so may or maynot work and pretty sure it will only work in IE 7 right now as I threw it into quirks mode for testing and I also have compression turned off at the moment.
The main point of buying controls like infragistics or teleriks is to get a development team work faster and do richapplications without or with little help of designers to get it pretty. The problem with infragistics is that they release bugged controls and they say's that the issues will be resolved in thenext patch. We cannot always delay the delivery of ours apps (and sometimes the bugs arent solved in the next patch). When i bought the library, i checked more of the performance and the styling. The demo website is nice and show real cool thing. However, when you start integrating the controls, you find that they doesnt always work with update panel, or validations. You need to tweak almost all your apps. Its bad....And for the learning thing. I really like Teleriks because theirs controls are almost like the microsoft ones but with more style andwith more functionnality. We were able to work with the infragistics syntax but it's sooo painfull to always be in the documentationwith small example that doesnt give all information in the same place. For a small company like mine, spending too much time to learning by prototyping to identifies issues or spending money in formation are not an option because we need to deliver application faster with reduced team. @ChrisI'm sure that infragistics like what you are doing with your site and you are very helpfull for them. However, Infragistics is no more an option for my company.
I'd have to say this is one of the most civil and potentially productive debates I've seen on the net! and the results of the challenge will be very interesting and possibly useful.
but I would point out that just because one person is able to construct something cool with Infragistics does not do much to prove it is the better component set. a better challenge would be to have several average programmers each try and build a real-world app with each vendor's component sets and assess how easy they are to use, how well documented, how feature-rich etc.
with that said however I look forward to seeing the results of the challenge!
:) thanks
I just put the site online the other day so overtime it will be very useful (well atleast for me as I have the memory of a gerbal) hehehe
Hopefully overtime people will start making requests on how to do something etc. which will allow me to get some more snippets and tutorials on there etc. so I see this challenge (win or lose) as a way to add a new tutorial :)
