HI
I upgraded to 7.3 clr 3 from 6.2. All of a sudden I am getting all of thses errors that used to work. The WegGrid properties used to wortk now they are read only???? DisplayLayout.RowSelectorStyleDefault etc. First of all why?????? Second what am I supposed to do. Now I have to waste a LOT OF TIME DOING RESEARCH INTO CHANGING MY APP. I am livid. Absollutley livid. It seems to happen ALL OF THE TIME. I am wondering if it is worth the aggravation to continue using these products. You obvioulsy do not care about the programmer.

OK I guess some people have different experiances with vendors and thats cool. My main bug bear with IG and please remember I have been a loyal IG customer for years is that their controls have a heavy footprint, and until recent lacked some key controls that I needed. This can not be disputed hence the arrival of Aikido, which is designed to overcome the problems of the current toolset. Now this is good and very much needed, BUT Telerik has their Prometheus toolset COMPLETED and packed with useful controls. For instance IG are going to create a new webcombo which will pretty much do what Teleriks already does, BUT this control does NOT exist yet. So IG are still lacking behind. Telerik have a demo that shows 1 MILLION records in a grid loading up in milliseconds. I DARE YOU to try that with the current IG grid. Maybe the Aikido grid will do it but the current grid just wont handle it. As of now Telerik is better but who is to say this wont change when the Aikido platform matures. No point arguing about this as Aikido is IG's answer to the problems of their current suite. Again cant really comment on support as I have received excellent support from BOTH companies.
@Cedric "LOL Seriously I Can't understand you" <-- I agree I can't understand you at all...
Here is a classic telerik response "we are unable to reproduce the problem locally" to prove this just goto their forums and search for "reproduce" and see the 3000k worth of responses what a joke, I got more support in my shorts...
"Webgrid, ugly style, buggy???" Whhhaaaaaattttttt???? IF you think the webgrid is ugly and/or buggy you clearly have no idea on how to use it and/or have not played with appstylist one of the two, and to be honest the grid that telerik has is weak in comparison to say the least and don't even get me started on the WebSchedule verus the Telerik Scheduler what a joke...
On WebChart I will agree with you but at the same time Dundas, ComponentArt etc. all suffer from the same flaws hence when doing charting I tend to use ChartDirector (not as pretty) but can whip out a custom chart in about 2mins so the trade off is a lot better...
Now on the file size I will agree with you that there are trade offs when using the Infragistics Controls (same with any control provider really) BUT unlike Telerik I can throw GZIP compression at infragistics without it blowing JS errors at me all day (try that with telerik) I hate to sound like such a anti Telerik guy but to be honest I have had nothing but trouble with them and their controls and (I HAVE) used all of them so I am speaking from experience... as far as WARP, Teleriks AJAX etc. they are NOT designed the way you are trying to use them and if you are building a intesive application you should not be using them to AJAX your entire application but rather fall back to MS AJAX and or just load the httprequest object yourself...
Look I don't want to be rude here but with Infragistics controls I can build/reverse engineer almost ANY website/application in under 30 days by myself...
If you want to have a serious debate about controlA vs. controlB I would be more than happy to debate it with you and show you the pros and cons of both, but really just don't see the point of posting a thread about "Why I get so frustrated with Infragistics..."...
I have been frustrated at times with pretty much every control I have used (including my own) but I can always find solitude with the forum members and staff at Infragistics because they are friendly and don't mind answering questions from beginner programmers and/or up to advanced programmers (even on subjects that are not related to their products)...
Sure I'm not. LOL Seriously I can't understand you, I began converting my application to Telerik when they where still in beta version (Prometeus) and it were more stable than the last version of IG for asp.net (2008.1). I do not see any problem with the support team, asking for clarifications that just help to have a better answer (After all it's not the main goal of everyone asking help on a forum???). In fact I do not judge the other products of IG, I never use them I do not care about them because I do not need them! But in my short experience with their asp.net suit, it's only scrap compared to others like Telerik or componentArt...
to complicated for nothing, to many properties, want an example? WebGrid, ugly style, buggy, a *** load of properties that meen nothing for me. Same thing for WebCombo, WARP (this one really make me really suffer!). Same thing with WebChart, really hard to configure, accept data in a strange format....
I really struggled while 3 months with their asp.net controls toolkit. If you like pain, you have month to spend to make all the controls fit together (IG and M$ asp.net control toolkit) continue with them but I do not have this time, I hate pain and I delayed the release of my application 2 month. It's 2 month of money less in my pocket, that really hurts, believe me!

Dont get me wrong, Telerik are by no means perfect and in some cases Infragistics does come up top. For instance Telerik cant touch Infragistics when it comes to the winform controls. Infragistics simply has that in the bag. IG also wins on WPF and fingers crossed their silverlight offering may also be better. But where IG does lack (in comparison) is in the ASP.NET controls. Compare their RadGrid with its features to IG grid. Teleriks grid can handle millions of records quite well, I just would not dare to replicate the same load with IG' grid. Now compare the scheduling tool, or their splitter tool or their window tool, or their webcombo tool, or their Ajax implementation, I could go on and on. Telerik's ASP.NET controls are simply more mature. Now its obvious IG are aware of this and are going to address the situation with Aikido to make faster, lightweight and feature packed tools. So in the future IG may reclaim its lead but as of right now Telerik just has that edge and thats just the plain truth. Support of their tools I guess is relative as I have exerianced ace support from IG and Telerik but obviously not everyone will have the same experiance.
Are you kidding me lol... Telerik has nothing BUT problems, and what really makes me LMFAO is when you post something on Telerik forums you get the "FAMOUS" old Microsoft answer "We were unable to reproduce the problem must be on your end..." lol Telerik what a Joke...
