Choosing tools
posted

It's great to see the new products and technologies appearing here, but it's now quite bewildering.

For a new project, or if refactoring an existing one, how do I choose?

ASP.Net controls, Silverlight, jQuery, LightSwitch, reporting.. Even within ASP.Net controls there's the Ultra and not-Ultra controls.

Is it possible someone could draw up a brief table listing:

- distinguishing features of each product / toolset

- platform/compatibility implications

- other considerations/requirements (e.g. Silverlight takes a heap of time just figuring out how to prepare a development environment, if you're not already into it)

There's a lot of information available, but that's the problem. I want a summary that lets me rapidly narrow down my choices, and have some idea I'm not going to waste a week running up a dead-end..

    Hello,

It would be best to begin with what you are looking to accomplish with your project and once you have a set of requirements look at what platform/toolset can be used to address them.

For information on the features of each product you can view use the links to each product on the NetAdvantage Ultimate product page:
    https://ko.infragistics.com/products/ultimate

If you have specific questions about any requirements that you may have these will be easier to address than to provide a guide on how to choose a platform/product.

Let me know if you have any questions with this matter
