Splitter in _Layoutpage

Is it a good idea to have a splitter in layout page?

Reason to have a splitter on layout page is, I am planning to put my tree on left panel which will remain static and content on right side will change based on click on tree. Also on right side in Index page, will have another splitter which will split the right side into 2 section, detail section and search section.
