MultiColumn, fixed headers

Are there any details on the limitations of using fixed headers(columns) and multicolumn headers? It appears that the fixed header captions are blank(IE) or get scrolled over by the scrolling headers(FF).Are there workarounds to get them to work together? Any input would be appreciated.
