Licensing options when changing developers/machines or inheriting application code.
posted

We are trying to make a change to a client's web application which references Infragistics controls.  This was inherited from the client and another developer.  The client knows little about the application code. Initially they'd like us to document it, but I wanted to compile the solution to ensure nothing is missing.

My initial reaction was, no problem, copy the project locally, try to compile, and proceed with documentation.

When trying to compile, a missing license error is shown in Visual Studio for an infragistics control.

What are our options in this case? Do we have to purchase a new license just to make a simple code update on our local copy? Can this license be changed? I'm not sure at this point who owns the original license to use with this application. The client expects us to figure it all out so I'd like to ask them as little as possible.

Help is appreciated, thank you!

If the previous dev didn't own a personal license and the client owned it, then you could transfer it in your name. Also, get in touch with our registrations department, who will be able to help out with any questions you may have around this:
