I generated the attached Excel file by opening an existing file, populating a datasheet, and then saving and closing the file. When I use another API to open the file, it errors out with "Invalid shared string item". If I open the file in Excel and then close it, Excel prompts me to save it. Once I save it, it opens fine. Can you tell what's wrong with the file that causes Excel to think it needs to be saved, even if nothing has changed?
Hello Kobie,
For some reason I do not see any attachments in your post. Would you be so kind to try to resend them again? Please put your files in zipped archive before send them again. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Oops. Sorry about that. It's attached.
I have tested this behavior and was able to reproduce this issue. I only opened the file with Infragistics Excel library and saved it. Then I opened it in MS Excel, and on close it asked for saving the file with no changes applied. I have asked our engineering staff to examine this further. To ensure that it will receive attention, I have logged this behavior in our internal tracking system with a Development ID of 243479. This will be assigned to a developer in a future sprint to review my investigation and confirm my findings or to offer a fix, or other resolution.
In the meantime can you give me more information about the other issue you are facing? Which is the other API you are using?
Please let me know if you need more information.
Hi Milko,
Thanks for your response. I'm using a toolkit called GemBox.Spreadsheet to open the Excel and convert it to PDF. Opening it caused the "Invalid shared string item" message. It only happens on the file that I sent, which may give a clue as to what the underlying issue is. They've sent a workaround for the issue, so I'm good for now. Please keep me posted as to the resolution of 243479.
Thanks,
This issue was fixed in versions 17.1 and 17.2 as well as in any future version of Infragistics for Windows Forms. You can download now the latest service release for these version.Thank you for using Infragistics components.
