I wanted to know if the swap column combobox (located on the column headers) has any customization capabilities. For example, I wanted to display more items (column names), implement the 'autocomplete' functionality or display column names in ascendig order.

I think there has been a misunderstanding on the 'display more items' expression. I would have said 'Show more columns when dropping-down the combo' (actually, only 8 column names can be seen).
The swap drop-down customization would have brought some little improvement on datacolum manipulation.

No, I don't think there's any customization available for this dropdown.
Out of curiosity, what good would it do you to add items to this list? You would be swapping the existing column with a column that does not exist?
