Slow loading\creating Infragistics components on a C# form

Hi,

I have a problem that my C# form takes a while(around 1 minute) to open when I use and Infragistics components v8.1 (even if I just create just a normal Infragistics button on the form). After the form was loaded and you close it and reopens it, it is quick to load the form and create the components. If you leave the form closed for a while (5min and more) I get the same slow loading and creating of the form. All the assemblies used are added to the GAC.

Any advice on how to ovecome this slow loading process?

Hi,

Did you ever find out any solution to this? I have a similar problem with Infragistics 8.1.20081.1000.

I am not using any special colours / languages / components etc - it just is slow...

Hi James,

With the release of NetAdvantage for .NET 2007 Volume 1 CLR 2.0, Infragistics digitally signed the assemblies contained in the toolset. This was done to accommodate the Windows Vista Certification Logo requirement that all assemblies in a program contain an Authenticode certificate.

Adding this digital signature helps to ensure security, but may affect the performance of your application.

Note that Infragistics did not include a digital signature for the assemblies in NetAdvantage for .NET 2007 Volume 1 for CLR 1.x. This product is not supported for use with Windows Vista, and thus should not need to satisfy the Windows Vista Certification Logo requirements.

Additional Information
During the initialization of an application, the .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR) verifies the digitally-signed assemblies against the Certificate Revocation List, located at crl.verisign.com. This requires the CLR to access this server via the Internet. If this server is unreachable, such as due to a firewall or lack of network connectivity, the CLR will eventually timeout the request and continue to load the assembly without verifying the digital signature. For each signed assembly, it can take between 15 to 30 seconds to timeout if the certificate provider’s server is unreachable.

Solutions
There are four possible workarounds to avoid the delays of not being able to reach the certificate provider's server
1. Provide access to the VeriSign web server, by providing an open Internet connection and opening up the system's firewall to allow the VeriSign server query to succeed.

2. Disable Certificate Revocation Checking for the entire system. This can be accomplished by unchecking the "Check for publisher’s certificate revocation" option on the Advanced tab of Internet Options. Internet Options can be accessed the Control Panel or from the Tools menu item of the Internet Explorer browser.

3. Manually download the Certificate Revocation List from VeriSign at crl.verisign.com and install it on the system. The CRL is valid only for 10-15 days, so unless the system is able to update the file after this time, the same issue will be encountered in the future.

4. Use versions of the assemblies that are not digitally signed. This is the solution suggested most highly by Infragistics Developer Support. The release build of NetAdvantage for .NET 2007 Volume 1 for CLR 2.0 (version 7.1.20071.40) did not have a non-digitally signed version of the assemblies. Starting with the first hotfix build (version 7.1.20071.1045), the assemblies installed are not digitally-signed, and versions of the assemblies that are digitally-signed are stored in the "ASP.NET\Bin - Signed", "ASP.NET\APTCA - Signed" (for allowing partially-trusted callers), and "Windows Forms\Bin - Signed" subfolders of the installation directory.

Thanks for the info clm_quintin!

I'm going to try solution #3 above since #1 and #2 didn't work for me. Do you know which .clr file in clr.verisign.com I should install? There're so many of them.
