hierarchical data - dynamic addition of child rows

Is there a way to hide the plus/minus icons that automatically appear for hierarchical data?I'd like to replace these plus/minus symbols and their associated functionality with buttons displayed in unbound fields. When a user clicks a button, hierarchical data is retrieved on demand from the database and displayed dynamically as child data. Clicking the button again causes the child data to be removed completely, i.e., the parent row would have no child rows. Any samples would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are probably a few ways to do this. You could manage your own ExpandableFieldRecord by setting the IsExpandable property to false and expanding it programmatically (or through Binding).
