Hi, I need to build an application for basically launching other applications / web pages (kind of like DOCK)
My bosses really like the Ribbon UI of Office 2007 and they want me to use it as the interface of the application...
BUT, Is it really the way to go?
Obviously this will speed up development time, but I'm not sure the look&feel will be complete.
Furthermore, The ribbon won't be the top menu for an applicaion, but rather the application itself,
how is that compared to the microsoft Ribbon UI guidelines?
I would like to get an expert opinion on the matter please...
I *think* that does go against the Office UI guidelines. If so, then doing this would essentially a violation of the license agreement. More information here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/aa973809.aspx
No I don't know of any client doing something like that. Since these are peer to peer newsgroups then maybe someone else will chime in. With regards to recommending another control I don't know what your requirements are or why you wanted to choose the ribbon to begin with. Perhaps a standard toolbar would do.
Hi,
Do you now of an infragistics client who tried to build an application launcher such as I need?
Event better, is there any other control that can be used for this?
Thanks.
I'm not an expert on the Office UI Guidelines nor can I provide legal interpretation of them but from my understanding of the guidelines the Ribbon is not meant to be used as a navigation device which is what it sounds like you are looking to use it as. That being said, you can try contacting MS regarding the usage since they provide the usage guidelines.
