I have a problem with the installation of the latest service release on my 64-bit system. There is no problem with the installation on my 32-bit virtual machine, but on my host the following error message appears after updating the component registration:
Does any one else have this problem too?
I was having the same issue and disabling UAC worked for me.

As far I see form your details you got 1721 error caused by installer and OS.
1. So can you please try to disable the UAC In windows and try to install the products again. More details about the UAC you can find here:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/30/how-to-disable-and-turn-off-uac-in-windows-7/
2. Try to install the product as Administrator (as in, right click on the file and run it that way or run it from an Administrator command prompt) .
3. If this doesn’t help can you try to reinstall the Windows Installer.

Can you tell me on what Operation System do you install the product?
Also do you have your Visual Studio closed when trying to install the product?
Other thing you can try is to download the installer again from the site, sometimes the download is not correct finished and results in strange errors.
