I am having a problem with BasedOn. The following code shows as an error:

The error is: Target type infragistics.Windows.DataPresenter.DataRecordCellArea i snot convertible to base type System.Windows.Style. See pic below. Even more strange is it compiles and runs and the style is applied as expected. What is going on?

It has been a while since you have made your post, in case you still need support I will be glad to assist you further. I suppose the other community members can benefit from this answer as well. So I have been looking through you post and I tested you sample with our supported versions and everything seems to work ok, so I suggest you download some of them.
