The following is my wish-list:

• Server-side processing: We can have multi-core, 16+ GB memory, and fast disks on the server. Server side processing will utilize those resources.
• Publishing Reports: We can publish the generated reports to a file-share so that interested parties can view them later without re-processing.
• Send it as an email: Server-side processing will make this possible too.
• Send it as a hyperlink: so that the link can be accessible for any user having a browser.
• Drill-down (or linked reports with parameter passing)
• Sub Reports: Available reports on the left and content is filling the rest (like a report book)
• Export as PDF is fine but other formats are also required (TIFF, XLSX, XPS come to mind)

I know those changes require lot of changes. Although I hate MS SQL Reporting Services, I wouldn't switch to a product without these enterprise features.

Hi Murat - I don't see hitting many of those scenarios, we aren't targeting most of those server side scenarios for the first few releases.  You can expect features like drill down, sub-reports, export to PDF (and other formats) in the next couple of releases.

So, in 2012, will there be server side features?

Actually, we do have server-side processing in the current CTP. For example, when you bind to a SQL DataSource from a Silverlight application, the report is processed in the server. It's rendered in the client (e.g. it will use Silverlight controls to render it) but all the heavy duty stuff is done in the server.

For V1 we will support exporting from the server and that will enable some of the scenarios you've described earlier like publishing/emailing/publish a link. You'll need to handle the report generation by yourself (we won't have a 'server' like SSRS).

The CTP2 we released a couple of weeks ago already has support for exporting to Excel.
