I'm having problems with the CategoryDateTimeXAxis sort order of items when I have missing data. Without missing values the plot looks just fine, but as soon as I add the missing value to my sequence, lines are no longer drawn between points in ascending date order.
Attached is a project that can replicate this problem.

There doesn’t seem to be an estimated date yet and also I couldn’t think of a work around as you asked, however until a new Service Release is available I can suggest you revert to the original RTM version of 11.1, which also works as you expected it to. I have been looking into your issue and after modifying the sample I was about to log it with development:
However when I tested this with the latest internal build it turned out that development has already taken care of it:
