Is there a howto or sample app for importing an excel file or doing a copy paste from excel to webgrid?

Never mind I figured it out. Thanks.

The DisplayLayout.AllowUpdateDefault (or the individual band's AllowUpdate property, or individual columns AllowUpdate property, or individual cells AllowEditing property)must be set to Yes.

The Activation property must be enabled.

A cell or row must be active to indicate the receiving start point of the data.
