I have been using various controls of Infragistics for ASP.NET for about two years. Currently i am using version 7.3, which does not render in Opera and Safari. Also, rendering is pretty messed up in Chrome. Is the latest version compatible with these browsers. Do you recommend upgrading to the latest version or 8.x version?
Information on what browsers we support is provided on the Supported Environments page of our website.
As listed on this page, our regular ASP.NET controls (including WebGrid) are not supported for use with either Opera, Safari, or Chrome. Our ASP.NET AJAX controls (including WebDataGrid and WebHierarchicalDataGrid) are supported for use with Safari and Chrome.
Is the Ajax grid now up to the same level of functionality as the UltraWebGrid? Okay, so it'll never be completely matching but you get the idea I hope?
Also, can the Ajax grid be used equally with server side data? I don't want to have to re-code everything to move to the client side. I know it'll possibly improve functionality but I've spend many, many hours learning how to use UltraWebGrid.
Cheers, Rob.
Hi,
The functionality of the WebDataGird is getting there for sure, but it really depends on which features you are using in the UWG and if they are specifically available. Either way, the transition would be crazy. I did it when I was only a few months of development into the UWG and it was extremely painful. All of the core features like inserting, deleting, etc work differently. Even if you use the canned add row and delete features, you'll have to recode everything else. Simple changing colors of grid elements in the initializerow events is a whole learning experience in WDG. There'e also no checkbox editor provider in WDG. And yes, there will be a lot of moving to client side code too.
You might as well start the process so you can add support for all browsers eventually, but it will take lots of time.
