Hi,
I have latest version of XamMap (latest service release) and if I add 100 SymbolElements, and a shape file of 50kb with ~50 shapes, navigation (e.g. zooming in and out) gets already quite slow. I feel that the number of SymbolElements is affecting the performance quite drastically.(more than the size of the shapefile does)
If I add 1000 SymbolElements (small .png file), Navigation becomes virtually impossible. On Bing Maps Silverlight control, I was previously able to add 5000 elements and navigate still quite smoothly.
The threshold of a smooth navigation is too low. I already add all the SymbolElements in one go to the ElementCollection, and 100 data points is not a whole lot.
This low performance is a show stopper for us using Infragistics XamMap (or stopper for buying additional licenses). Is there any way Infragistics could look at improving the performance?
Thanks for letting me know.
Roel
Hi Roel,
The performance was a known issue and we have improved it a lot in the upcoming release. We have tested it with 5000 (and above) SymbolElements and the performance is very good, panning and zooming are much smoother than before.
The performance improvement will be available first in the 2011.1 Release, which should be ready in the next 2 weeks. Please give it a try and let us know if it meets yout expectations.
Thanks,
Ivan Kotev
Hi Ivan,
Sounds promising. Eager to try out the service release! (This is a service release, right?)
Br,
The XamMap performance improvement will be included in the 2011.1 product release first and later it will be available as a service release for the previous releases.
Regards,
When exactly will it be available (11.1 and 10.3) ? I don't find any useful information on the service releases page:
http://ko.infragistics.com/support/documentation.aspx#ServiceReleases
The 11.1 product release has just been released and can be downloaded from here: http://ko.infragistics.com/downloads/default.aspx
I have attached a sample Silverlight project that uses 5000 SymbolElement objects. You could also add the World shapefiles or a MapTileSource like OpenStreet and panning and zooming should be smooth.
I have some troubles installing.
I've tried with NetAdvantage 2011 Vol. 1 Platform Installer and also with NetAdvantage for Silverlight Data Visualization 2011 Vol. 1 Complete Bundle
I try to install only the SL components:

I'd like to ask you a couple of questions, if possible, in order to investigate the issue.
Did you uninstalled the previous version of NetAdvantage prior to trying to install 11.1? Also, would you please share what OS do you use and is it English language packed?
Thanks,Milana Zhileva
I tried to reproduce the issue but it worked fine for me on an English language packed XP machine. I suggest that maybe you unistall the 10.3 version and then try to install 11.1 (though I didn't do it in my case and still worked).
Hope that helps,Milana Zhileva
Hi
Any ideas?
-did not uninstall 10.3 before
-Windows xp
-English OS
