Hi,
I have latest version of XamMap (latest service release) and if I add 100 SymbolElements, and a shape file of 50kb with ~50 shapes, navigation (e.g. zooming in and out) gets already quite slow. I feel that the number of SymbolElements is affecting the performance quite drastically.(more than the size of the shapefile does)
If I add 1000 SymbolElements (small .png file), Navigation becomes virtually impossible. On Bing Maps Silverlight control, I was previously able to add 5000 elements and navigate still quite smoothly.
The threshold of a smooth navigation is too low. I already add all the SymbolElements in one go to the ElementCollection, and 100 data points is not a whole lot.
This low performance is a show stopper for us using Infragistics XamMap (or stopper for buying additional licenses). Is there any way Infragistics could look at improving the performance?
Thanks for letting me know.
Roel
Hi Roel,
The performance was a known issue and we have improved it a lot in the upcoming release. We have tested it with 5000 (and above) SymbolElements and the performance is very good, panning and zooming are much smoother than before.
The performance improvement will be available first in the 2011.1 Release, which should be ready in the next 2 weeks. Please give it a try and let us know if it meets yout expectations.
Thanks,
Ivan Kotev
Hi Ivan,
Sounds promising. Eager to try out the service release! (This is a service release, right?)
Br,
The 11.1 product release has just been released and can be downloaded from here: http://ko.infragistics.com/downloads/default.aspx
I have attached a sample Silverlight project that uses 5000 SymbolElement objects. You could also add the World shapefiles or a MapTileSource like OpenStreet and panning and zooming should be smooth.
Regards,
I have some troubles installing.
I've tried with NetAdvantage 2011 Vol. 1 Platform Installer and also with NetAdvantage for Silverlight Data Visualization 2011 Vol. 1 Complete Bundle
I try to install only the SL components:

I will try to reproduce the issue. Could you provide us with all the logs from the "Log Files" folder that is located next to the Platform installer .exe ?
It is best to open a support case for that and provide all the details to Developer Support.
Alex
After uninstalling version 10.3 it worked. Also this time I clicked NetAdvantage_SilverlightDV_20111.msi, maybe last time I did the NetAdvantage_Ultimate_20111.exe
I tried the sample app, and there are indeed some great performance improvements. Good work!
Another question: we just bought a 10.3 license, can we use this key for the 11.1 version also?
Alexander, it's probably related to 1)
Hello Roel,
I am just checking if you were able to decide on using an untested build and if this is still a possible solution for your scenario.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
I understand your predicament and usually we can provide an untested version of our internal build, however this also requires some technical time and it is already the end of the month. Could you please elaborate if such an untested version would be acceptable for your project and what is the deadline you have for switching references in your product.
Here you go.
Problem is we already release by the end of this month which is too late to onboard the latest service release for 10.3. Is there any way I could get a version with performance improvements earlier?
Is everything OK now? If yes, could you also Suggest as Answer my post?
I am glad to hear that the installation succeeded.
Regarding your last question, you can't use the license key from 10.3 for the 11.1 version. However, the performance improvements in xamMap are going to be included in our next 10.3 Service Release, which is expected at the beginning of July. An option to get it earlier is to request an untested build by contacting our Developer Support team.
