I have an Excel 2007 workbook with some charts defined. I Load() the workbook, make a few changes, and then save it to the same file. When I open the workbook, the charts are not preserved.
In fact, if I just Load()/Save(), the charts are gone. Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround?
Round-trip support for charts was added as a bug fix in versions 9.2 and later. The fix was released on 12/20/2010. If you are using 9.2 or later and you upgrade to the latest SR, it should preserve the charts correctly.
ok. Thanks. I'll give that a try.
I upgraded to 11.1. The charts are now preserved after loading/saving, but my embedded picture is getting distorted. The picture is mostly black, and the image the picture displays is shrunk to the upper left hand corner.
Any ideas why this would happen?
It could be a bug. I have forwarded this post to the Developer Support Manager and a DS engineer will be contacting you about this issue.

Hello kobieb,
After further reviewing this issue and testing it with pictures with different sizes I succeed in reproducing the mentioned behavior so I am going to ask our developers to investigate this further.
I will update you on my progress in a business day.
I reviewed your questions and test it with.xlsx file with chart. I tried to load the workbook and save it and I am not able to reproduce the issue you are describing. Could you please provide me with more information about the version of Microsoft Excel you use and a small sample where the behavior is reproducible.
Thanks in advance.
